Commuters on the Delhi metro on Sunday had a VVIP fellow passenger.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi delighted commuters on the Janpath Metro by clicking selfies on his way to flag off the Badarpur-Faridabad Metro Line. In photos tweeted out by ANI, Modi is seen posing for selfies inside a relatively uncrowded compartment of the Delhi Metro as his security officers stood nearby.
The Delhi-Faridabad Metro Line would connect Delhi and Haryana for around two lakh daily commuters. The Prime Minister boarded the Metro from Janpath and travelled with common people to Bata Chowk station of Faridabad-Badarpur line, according to reports.
Addressing people after inaugurating the Metro Line, Modi said Haryana was like second home to him. He said infrastructure was essential for progress and his government's sole aim was development.
"Work will soon begin for the Ballabhgarh stretch of the Metro", Modi said.
The total cost of the project from Badarpur to Escorts Mujesar is nearly Rs 2,500 crore. Out of this, Rs 1,557 crore was borne by the Haryana Government, the Centre contributed Rs 537 crore, while the Delhi Metro provided Rs 400 crore, PTI reported.
The nine stations in this section include, Sarai, NHPC Chowk, Mewala Maharajpur, Sector 28, Badkal Mor, Old Faridabad, Neelam Chowk Ajronda, Bata Chowk and Escorts Mujesar. All these are elevated and located on either side of the Delhi-Mathura Road (NH-2).
