A 16-year-old girl has become an overnight role model for millions of women across the sub-continent after fighting off two drunk men.

According to a report in the Times of India, two inebriated accosted the teenager on Monday in West Bengal's Madhyamgram while she was returning from her karate class.

Having practiced karate for over a year, she was more than able to handle the men and instead of fleeing chose to defend herself with some well-aimed punches and kicks. “I smashed their faces,” she said in an interview with TOI. “They got what they deserved. I am not afraid of them,” she said.

In spite of several people being present, the girl received no help, and eventually the attackers managed to get away. She then filed an FIR against the duo, who are allegedly repeat offenders.

The girl also claimed that the men had been teasing her and an acquaintance for several weeks. "I had complained against them to local people but no one dared speak a word against them. They are a terror for women," she said. "I told myself that if they crossed a line, I would fight back."

The braveheart revealed that her primary reason for taking up karate was to defend herself against such crime. Her parents did not support her decision, but after this incident, she said she would never give up martial arts.
