PARWANOO -- Two foreigners were killed and 14 people were injured on Saturday when two coaches of a Kalka-Shimla toy train derailed near this Himachal Pradesh town, a police officer said.
The dead were women, an officer at the spot told IANS on the telephone. The injured were admitted were to hospitals in Pareanoo, 30 km from Chandigarh.
The officer said the train with four engines left Kalka in Haryana at 12.40 p.m. It went off the tracks an hour into its journey. Five trains daily run to-and-fro on the World Heritage Kalka-Shimla line.
"The reason behind the incident is yet to ascertained. It might be a problem in the track or in the coach. There is a possibility that an animal suddenly came on tne track or rocks falling on track leading to the derailment," Northern Railway CPRO Neeraj Sharma told IANS in New Delhi.
