NEW DELHI -- Pursuing his "शब्दवापसी /TakeBackYourWords" campaign, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is reportedly inundating Prime Minister Narendra Modi with bags of mail carrying hair strands and nail clippings.
Last month, Kumar vowed to send 50,000 hair and nail samples to Modi if he didn't retract his jibes about the chief minister's "DNA," made at Bharatiya Janata Party's maiden election rally in Muzaffarpur in July.
Nirman Bhavan Post Office has received 117 mail bags with about 1,000 letters each, which have samples of hair strands and nail clippings, The Economic Times reported on Wednesday.
"The prime minister gets lots of letters and we already have special arrangements in place for that. The Nirman Bhawan post office makes two-three deliveries of bags full of communication for the PM daily," Chief Post Master General, Delhi Circle, Vasumitra, told ET.
"There may be a 10-20 per cent rise in mail from Bihar as part of some drive," he said.
Last month, Kuma launched the "शब्दवापसी" campaign, which involves 50,000 people from Bihar sending their DNA samples to the prime minister in September. "Modi's DNA remark is an insult to Bihar and the people of Bihar. This issue will be decided in the people's court," he said.
In July, Modi made jibes about Kumar's "DNA," while criticising the Janata Dal (United) leader of having an arrogant attitude towards other politicians.
In his campaign speech, Modi recalled how Kumar cancelled a dinner with BJP leaders after the party published ads which showed them holding hands in 2010, and then he talked about former Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi's explusion from the JD(U) in February.
"I didn't say anything but I was very hurt. But when Jitan Ram Manjhi was persecuted, then I became restless. He snatched the plate from the son of a poor tea seller. But when he took away everything from a mahadalit, then I thought something is wrong with his DNA," he said.
