Prime Minister Narendra Modi Leaves For Two-Nation Tour

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday left for a two-nation visit to Ireland and the US, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted. He is expected to address the United Nations during this trip.

IANS reported that Modi will spend the day in Ireland today where he will hold discussions with Prime Minister Enda Kenny and depart for New York in the evening for the US.

Modi will be in the US till September 29, the report stated.





Incidentally, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will also be in US at the same time as Modi, reported NDTV.

"Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi is traveling to Aspen, US on a short visit to attend a conference," NDTV quoted Randeep Singh Surjewala, the party's media chief as saying.

Modi is scheduled to hold a special summit on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in US to push for a permanent seat for India on the Security Council, reported Barkha Dutt, writing for NDTV.

On Saturday morning, Modi will host German Chancellor Angela Merkel, Japanese PM Shinzo Abe and Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff in New York at a group of four (G-4) summit, Dutt wrote.
