SRINAGAR -- The Police on Saturday foiled the Muharram procession in Srinagar when they were trying to gather at Ghanta Ghar in lalchowk to take out a major procession.
The police stopped the processions and detained the mourners to prevent major gatherings.
Muharram processions have been disallowed in parts of Srinagar since 1990, especially in some of the uptown areas. Smaller congregations in downtown Srinagar and on the city's outskirts are permitted.
