India has officially got in touch with captured underworld don, Chhota Rajan, in Bali. First secretary consular at the Indian embassy in Jakarta, Sanjeev Kumar Agrawal, met underworld don Chhota Rajan on Sunday and confirmed to reporters that he'd visited Rajan to facilitate "consular access."

Ever since the former Dawood Ibrahim aide has been arrested in Bali, there've been conflicting reports on whether this was part of a 'deal' by Indian security officials.

For instance, Chhota Rajan had reportedly told the Bali police that his life "will be in danger in India" and asked them to allow him to leave for Zimbabwe. Then a next set of reports emerged saying that he wanted to be in India, didn't want to go to Zimbabwe and 'never planned on surrendering.'

Rajan, one of India's most wanted gangsters, was arrested in this popular Indonesian tourist destination on a Red Corner Notice issued by Interpol, after eluding law enforcement agencies for over two decades.

Rajan is facing four cases under Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act (TADA), one under Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) and over 20 cases under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).

Prior to being nabbed. Rajan was travelling with the identity of Mohan Kumar with passport number G9273860 when he was apprehended at the airport here, after arriving there on a Garuda Indonesia flight GA715, by the Indonesian Police on a tip off from Australian authorities, they said.
