Madhureeta Anand's Kajarya was recently broadcasted at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi as part of a ceremony to commemorate the 40 million, 'missing' Indian girls, who've been lost to foeticide. "Most film trailers are launched within the confines of rooms in Mumbai. But Kajarya is a film with a mission and a strong message. And so the decision is to release the film’s trailer at Jantar Mantar, where all social movements have been launched.
The film’s triumph lies in the fact that it is a story that was born from the raw realistic environs of Haryana and Delhi and so it’s only befitting that it’s trailer too should be launched in that way," said Anand.

Only one of three Indian films to première at the Dubai International Film Festival, the film caught the eye of activist Eve Ensler, writer of 'The Vagina Monologues'. Ensler has included the movie as part of her own campaign, calling it an eye opener that dealt with sensitive issues such as the place of women in Indian society.

The thriller features two women, Meenu Hooda, who plays Kajarya, a village woman who kills female babies to honour the Goddess Kaali, and a young journalist (played by Ridhima Sud) who exposes her. The raw, hypnotic and aggressive film has been shot in Haryana, and juxtaposes two Indias: modern and progressive as well as atavistic and rural.

The film is set to release on December 4, 2015.
