The Guardian reports Jubbal as claiming to have been targeted by Gamergate, a sort of vigilante community that monitors how writers review online games and whether they transgress codes of political correctness specific to games. Jubbal is a critic of Gamergate, which--in the politics of the online world--has been charged with being misogynistic. He also claimed on his Twitter handle to have pioneered the #StopGamerGate2014 campaign.
The morphed picture of Jubbal, doing the rounds of the internet, show him as holding a Quran and sporting a bomb vest. It was originally a selfie of him holding an Ipad.
