It seems lawmakers in Chennai aren't above politicizing a tragedy that has devastated millions. As normalcy returned gradually to a city reeling under the worst flooding in decades, so has politics.

A The Times of India report alleged that the relief material that is being supplied to the city from all over the country is only being allowed in certain areas when it carried a mandatory sticker with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa's face on it.

Twitter users have clicked photographs of relief material plastered with the chief minister's face, raising the question whether AIADMK is milking the travesty with an eye on the assembly elections next year.

According to the report, citizens even heckled senior ministers like Natham Viswanathan, Sellur Raju and Gokul Indira.

Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force has now shifted its focus from rescue to relief work and is set to deploy its teams with the aim to persuade people to leave their homes in Chennai and surrounding areas, and move to safer places.

Jayalalithaa, fondly called 'amma', or mother, by her many followers has many products that endorse her. There are amma canteens, amma tea, mineral water, salt and cement available in Chennai.
