The sports biopic genre in Hindi cinema is going from strength to strength, with the latest one being one on ace badminton player Saina Nehwal.

According to a report by Bombay Times, Amole Gupte will be writing and directing a film based on the ace shuttler's life.

The filmmaker, best known for his work on Taare Zameen Par (2007) as well as directing films such as Stanley Ka Dabba (2011) and Hawa Hawai (2014), reportedly met Nehwal and her family at their residence in Hyderabad on Tuesday. There, over home-made aloo parathas, they discussed details about Nehwal's life.

The Olympic bronze medallist has previously been quoted as saying that she "wouldn't mind" a biopic made on her life as long as it highlights badminton, rather than focusing on her. She has also said that she'd like it if Deepika Padukone could play her role and Shah Rukh Khan play the role of her coach.

She wants the film to get made not for personal glory, but to inspire young minds and encourage them to take up badminton. "I hope in the future we get many more badminton players," she told PTI, in December 2014.
