Pahlaj Nihalani has reportedly placed a request with the Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association (IMPPA) to register the title of a movie to be made under his production banner. Guess what the title of the film is? No, it's not 'Censor' or 'Har Ghar Modi'. It's 'Sanskari'.
Nihalani confirmed the news to Mumbai Mirror: "Yes, I have registered the title, it's a good one. If you can have a film titled Sanyasi, why can't you have one called Sanskari?"
But there's a rider. Nihalani is still not sure about the plot of his saga on 'sanskar'.
He told Mirror: "Title bahut achcha hai, ab kuch sochenge (the title is very good, we'll think of something now). I write my own scripts so I'll come up with something myself."
If one is familiar with Nihalani's filmography, he or she would know that Nihalani is no Barjatya and 'sanskar' was as rare in the films produced by him as unharmed cars are in Rohit Shetty's. His critics will forever hold a sing called 'Khada Hai, Khada Hai' from his 1994 film Andaz against his recent 'sanskari' makeover.
While Nihalani has been in the news for all the wrong reasons ever since he took over as the CBFC chief, his recent effort to snip Spectre (2015) to match presumed Indian morality standards faced a singeing backlash. Nihalani cut the duration of on-screen kisses in the James Bond film and later defended the cuts by angrily questioning, "You want to do sex with your door open?"
