LOS ANGELES -- Indo-British director Asif Kapadia's documentary "Amy", based on the life of singer Amy Winehouse, and Indian-American Sanjay Patel's animated short film "Sanjay's Super Team" have bagged nominations at this year's Academy Awards.
"Amy" has been nominated in the Best Documentary Feature category where it will fight it out with "Cartel Land", "The Look of Silence", "What Happened, Miss Simone?" and "Winter on Fire: Ukraine's Fight for Freedom".
Kapadia, whose film has also earned two Bafta nominations, depicts Winehouse's life largely from the standpoint of her struggle with substance abuse, both before and after her career began, eventually leading to her early death.
"Amy", which had its world premiere at Cannes Film Festival, has earn many awards and has been nominated in for various prestigious awards including- Grammy and NME for Best Music Film.
"Sanjay's Super Team" has been nominated in Animated Short Film along side "Bear Story", "Prologue", "We Can't Live without Cosmos" and "World of Tomorrow".
In the movie, by Pixar Animation Studios, accomplished artist Sanjay Patel uses his own experience to tell the story of a young, first-generation Indian-American boy whose love for western pop culture comes into conflict with his father's traditions.
"Bridge of Spies", which has earned seven nominations at the Oscars including the best picture has been co-produced by Indian businessman Anil Ambani and Steven Spielberg.
The 88th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2016, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland.
