As the world mourns the passing of Glenn Frey, the talented guitarist, songwriter and founding member of the rock band Eagles, it's time to revisit the legacy that made the band the toast of the 70s with timeless hits such as 'Hotel California' and 'Desperado'.

Frey, along with drummer Don Henley, co-wrote and sang many of the band's greatest hits, fusing rock with country to give America's heartbreaks a voice. Detroit-born Frey, who often sang lead vocals, fuelled the band's rise to the top of charts with numbers such as 'Take It Easy', 'Peaceful Easy Feeling' and 'Lyin' Eyes'.

"He was the spark plug, the man with the plan," Henley said in his tribute to Frey. "He had an encyclopedic knowledge of popular music and a work ethic that wouldn’t quit. He was funny, bullheaded, mercurial, generous, deeply talented and driven."

After the Eagles broke up in 1980, Frey went on to have a successful solo career with songs such as 'The One You Love' and 'The Heat Is On.'

Without further ado, here are some iconic songs as a tribute to the man "who started it all".
