Here's some bad news for social media addicts. The photos of Narendra Modi and Francois Hollande -- which earned the award for being the most awkward hug ever the moment it landed on Twitter -- may not have been a 'hug' after all.
When French President François Hollande was in India on a three-day visit, the embrace that Prime Minister Narendra Modi seemed to be locking him in had social media in splits. Several people claimed that it resembled to the now-famous pose from the Oscar-winning Hollywood film Titanic (1997).
But according to new reports based on a close viewing of video clips from President Hollande's visit to the famous Rock Garden in Chandigarh, PM Modi wasn't trying to hug the French President. He was merely asking him to stand in an appropriate position for better photos.
According to a report in Hindustan Times, photographer Akhilesh Kumar from The Hindu, had clicked a series of pictures of the event in quick succession. But the image he finally chose to release was the hilarious one, where it looked like Modi was embracing Hollande from the back.
“Modi was just positioning Hollande as the photographers asked the French President to move to the right for a better background,” Kumar told HT.
