Just days after BJP MLA Akash Vijayvargiya thrashed a civic official with a cricket bat in Indore, Congress legislator Nitesh Rane and his supporters poured mud on a civic engineer near the Mumbai-Goa highway. The incident has been caught on camera.
Nitesh Rane is the son of former Maharashtra chief minister Narayan Rane.
Rane, according to IANS, had gone to inspect road repairs being carried out on a stretch of the bridge on the Gad River near Kankavli.
The MLA and his supporters accosted the sub-engineer, Prakash Shedekar, and questioned him on the bad condition of the roads, the report added.
In the video, the Congress MLA can be seen pushing the engineer while his supporters poured mud on his head.
Reacting to the incident, Narayan Rane said that this behaviour was wrong. “The protest over the highway issue is correct but this violence by his supporters is not correct. I don’t support this,” he was quoted as saying by ANI.
Shiv Sena leader Priyanka Chaturvedi also condemned the incident. “This is violent goondagardi and near attempt to murder! This kind of hooliganism coming from Congress MLA should be strictly dealt with by the government! Don’t spare this kind of brazen contempt of law and order by an elected representative,” she tweeted.
This comes just days after Vijayvargiya was arrested for assaulting a civic official in Indore while protesting the demolition of a dilapidated house. He was later released on bail.
