At first, social media gave a giant thumbs up to the popular singer, who entertained passengers on board a chartered flight from Jodhpur to Mumbai on 4 January by taking control of the in-flight intercom and singing Bollywood numbers.
But later, to the horror of many, Jet Airways suspended five crew members who allowed Nigam to use the plane's address system to sing. In a statement Jet Airways said: "All cabin crew on the flight have been taken off flight duty for enquiry and corrective training to reinforce strict adherence to operating procedures."
Twitter, while supporting Nigam and condemning Jet Airways, did find something to laugh about.
Twitter users showed off their sense of humour and knowledge of Bollywood numbers with tweets of scenarios in which Nigam responds with song to the standard scripts of flight attendants.

According to media reports this is not the first time that an Indian airline has got into trouble for allowing singing or dancing in a flight. A couple of years ago, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) had issued a show-cause notice to SpiceJet, asking why its licence should not be suspended, after a video of the cabin crew on a Goa-Bangalore flight dancing to 'Balam Pichkari' in the aisles went viral on social media. They were dancing to celebrate Holi.
