Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar on Tuesday denied reports that he has been rusticated by the university.

Kumar said that the university’s show cause notice to him had no mention of rustication. As per reports, a probe panel set up by JNU had recommended that Kumar, along with four other students, be rusticated from the varsity.

"I have not been rusticated. The university authorities have issued a show-cause notice to me and sought a reply by 5 p.m. tomorrow," Kanhaiya told ANI while leading a march from Mandi House to the Parliament Street demanding that the students who were still in custody on sedition charge be set free.

Meanwhile, a Delhi Court extended the judicial custody of students Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, who were also accused of raising anti-national slogans on the campus on February 9 in an event organised to protest against the 2013 hanging of parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. JNU students on Tuesday raised slogans in support of Khalid and Bhattacharya and carried out a protest march on the campus.

The probe panel of JNU had reportedly recommended rustication of Kumar, Khalid, Bhattacharya and two other students for their alleged role in connection with the February 9 event.
