Hindi cinema viewers probably remember South Indian actor Arvind Swamy from a slew of films in the '90s, most memorably the Hindi-dubbed versions of Mani Ratnam's Tamil hits Roja (1992) and Bombay (1994).
In 2013, after a break from cinema for a number of years as he tended to business interests and recovered from an injury, he returned to the screen with a supporting role in Ratnam's crime drama Kadal. Last year, he received critical praise for his antagonistic turn in Mohan Raja's action thriller Thani Oruvan (2015).
Now, the 45-year-old actor will be seen in a Hindi film for the first time since's TK Rajeev Kumar's Raja Ko Rani Se Pyar Ho Gaya (2000), which released more than 15 years ago. He plays the lead in the upcoming Hindi-Tamil bilingual drama Dear Dad, whose trailer was released online on Thursday.
In the film, Swamy plays Nitin Swaminathan, a loving father who embarks on a road trip with his 14-year-old son Shivam (Himanshu Sharma). The trailer hints at a strained relationship between the two due to, perhaps, some sort of transgression committed by the father, which he is shown attempting to rectify.
The film, directed by first-timer Tanuj Bhramar, is slated to release in theatres on May 6. Watch the trailer above.
