Facebook messenger has pushed a major update by allowing users to make group calls over the Internet. The feature will be available both on Android and iOS apps all over the world. The change will roll out in next 24 hours.
Messenger's head David Marcus announced this feature on the social network yesterday. The users will be able to call simultaneously 50 people. They will be able to press the call button in the messenger in a group then select the users they want to include to initiate the call. The people in the call will be shown with an "in-call" sign in the groups while the others will have a "Not in call sign". If they have not joined the conversation at the start, they can later by pressing the call button in group.

"Really excited to announce the global roll out of group calling in Messenger today. From any group conversations, just tap on the phone icon to initiate a group call. You can then manage individual participants on the next screen," said Marcus in a Facebook post.

Facebook launched VoIP calls in 2013 later expanding it to one-on-one calls in messenger. In 2015, they rolled out VoIP video calling. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said recently that Facebook Messenger contributes to almost 10% of the VoIP calls in the world. A lot of competitors such and Viber and WeChat already offer group video calling.
Recently in Facebook's F8 developer conference, Zuckerberg said the messenger crossed more than 900 million monthly active users all over the world. The company even announced the chatbots in messenger so that users can call a cab, order a meal, book a table at a restaurant or read news. Facebook has opened up the API for developers for making more bots available to the user.
