"Couldn't have asked for more drama," Hingis later told reporters.
Twitter was flooded with outpouring of love and affection for Mirza.
Congratulations #SaniaMirza @MirzaSania you always make us proud. And the best is you always stand your own through up and down. Fabulous

But one particular tweet stood out. The BBC India handle tweeted this out last night, congratulating Hingis for her win at the "Wimbledon doubles final". Indians are furious that BBC India left out Mirza's name in the tweet.
While this could have been a genuine mistake, fans are having none of it, accusing the organisation of being racist. Union Minister Smriti Irani also pointed out the mistake to BBC.
Hey BBC India, it takes 2 players to win a doubles final. Lets help you with the other winner's name-- Sania Mirza https://t.co/1Lg4jllg4O
— Harneet Singh (@Harneetsin) July 12, 2015
@BBCIndia so does Sania Mirza
— Smriti Z Irani (@smritiirani) July 12, 2015
The subtle racism of BBC RT @smritiirani @BBCIndia so does Sania Mirza

She played with two rackets. "@BBCIndia: Hingis wins Wimbledon doubles final http://t.co/4vuY4vipRz"
— hawashmi (@hawashmi) July 12, 2015
No one in history of tennis has won a doubles game alone. Congrats @mhingis.
@BBCIndia

@bbcindia only Hingis? Why did you not mention Sania's name? It was doubles not singles.
— Shakeeb Sayem (@Simply_Shaks) July 11, 2015
@BBCIndia there was an indian lass with her in case you overlooked
— desertfox (@desertfox61I) July 12, 2015

At the time of writing this, BBC had not deleted or corrected the tweet.
