NEW DELHI -- Delhi police is looking for a woman who allegedly slapped a police officer part of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's security detail. Though the identity of the woman, believed to be a Turkish national, is not yet known, police have started their probe after a complaint was lodged last night.

The accused woman had allegedly slapped assistant sub inspector Om Prakash, posted with Delhi Police's PM security wing, on Friday outside WWF auditorium in Delhi. The unprovoked attack was caught on camera by PTI photographer Vijay Verma.

Following the incident, the security unit of Delhi Police submitted a report on the incident to the Delhi Police headquarters. The ASI's statement has been recorded, who said that the accused woman first abused him and others before slapping him, unprovoked.

"As per protocol, the gates have to be locked after anyone with SPG (special protection group) protection arrives, as is the case with the former PM," explained a senior police officer to HuffPost India. "Delhi Police is alerted of Dr. Singh's movements in advance and gates of the WWF auditorium were shut after he arrived."

According to police, those invited to the book release function were informed in advance that they should be at the venue 30 to 45 minutes before Dr. Singh arrived. They said that the accused woman was one of the several people who were stopped — including diplomats and journalists — after they came too late for entry.

"All invites are being checked so we can zero in on her identity," said the officer. "Once all facts are verified, a case of assault/preventing a public servant from performing his duty will be filed."
