NEW DELHI -- Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who attended an all-party meeting called by Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan on Monday ahead of the Monsoon Session of Parliament starting July 21, said there is a need to move forward with on the land bill.
"The government wants to discuss all issues. Issues of previous sessions have to be taken forward. The government has to share responsibilities. We have to move forward with mutual responsibilities," he said.
"Govt has to take initiative and responsibility to run Parliament, but this responsibility has to be shared by all. Parliament has a major significance and it should be utilised to discuss all issues," the PM said.
The Congress Party is all set to corner the BJP-led NDA Government during the Monsoon Session over the controversy surrounding former IPL boss Lalit Modi and the Vyapam scam.
Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad yesterday put forward his party's views and demanded the resignations of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for smooth functioning of the House.
Azad said the Congress expects that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje would resign from their posts for helping out Lalit Modi. The Congress leader added his party also expects that Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be sacked for inaction in the Vyapam scam.
Commenting on the Goods and Services Tax Bill, Azad said his party is not against the passage of the bill but there should be consensus and detailed discussions on it.

On Sunday, top Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders met at the Prime Minister's official 7, Race Course Road (RCR) residence here to discuss the party's strategy ahead of the Monsoon Session of the Parliament.
Union Ministers Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh and Venkaiah Naidu, and BJP president Amit Shah were among those who participated in the meeting.
The party leadership reportedly discussed the strategy for the session as opposition parties have closed their ranks against the government on various issues, including Vyapam scam, Lalit Modi controversy and the Socio Economic and Caste Census.
While the BJP-led NDA commands a sizeable majority in the Lok Sabha, it lacks numbers in the Rajya Sabha where opposition holds the key to passage of important legislations, including Goods and Services Tax and Land bill.
