GUWAHATI — A helicopter that went missing in Arunachal Pradesh with three passengers onboard has been found in a dense forest. Rescue operations have been launched.

Kamlesh Joshi, a government officer, and a pair of pilots were on board when it went off the radar at around 11 am. The Indian Air Force had launched an aerial hunt for the state-owned Pawan Hans chopper that was on its way to Dibrugarh for Khonsa district.

Arunachal Pradesh, in India's northeast, has proved treacherous for air rides in the past. In 2011, former state chief minister Dorjee Khandu and four others died after their Pawan Hans chopper crashed at a remote location in the state.

That was followed by another crash that killed 16 people. The government then stopped Pawan Hans flights in the state for two years.
