Why This Kerala College Has Asked Female Students To Keep Doors Unlocked When Changing Is Mind Boggling

There seems to be no end to bizarre rules seeking to regulate and control the lives of women college students. First, there was curfew, then a dress code, and now female students of a college in Kerala have been asked to not lock doors even when they are changing clothes.

Students of Upasana College of Nursing in Kerala's Kollam district have complained that the college management has been suffocating them with ridiculous rules and heavy fines.

Girls living in the college hostel have been instructed to not lock their doors, even while changing clothes, reports the Newsminute. The logic behind the rule is as bizarre as the rule itself. The college principal reportedly wishes to deter hostelers from engaging in homosexual acts.

"The principal says we are closing rooms to secretly use mobile phones or because we are homosexuals. We have been told to just keep a chair near the door, but we can't close it," a fourth-year student told the Newsminute.

Internet access in the college library has also reportedly been blocked as the management believes that students only use internet to watch porn.

The students, who have been protesting outside the campus to get the principal replaced since Friday, also charged him with specially targeting those students who belong to backward castes.
