The first song from the upcoming Akshay Kumar starrer Singh Is Bliing was released online on Wednesday. The single, 'Tung Tung Baje', features Kumar performing the bhangra and various stunts in rural Punjab and also shows glimpses of the film's female lead, Amy Jackson.

The track, which features mixed Punjabi and English lyrics set to a catchy mix of electronic beats, dhols, and dubstep bass-wobbles, is a version of one made by music composer Sneha Khanwalkar in 2012 for the very first episode of the now-discontinued reality show MTV Sound Trippin'. The show involved Khanwalkar travelling to various places in India, recording unusual sounds, using local singers who had never recorded professionally before, and eventually coming up with a song that would capture the essence of the place she had visited.

The original, called 'Tung Tung', was shot in the village of Kila Raipur, district Ludhiana, Punjab. It is famed for its annual sports festival, which is popularly known as the 'Rural Olympics'. Scenes from the festival make up the bulk of the video (these have been seemingly recreated for its Bollywood version), which also shows how Khanwalkar uses organic, everyday sounds (such as the sound made by a running tractor engine) as sonic elements in her track. The Singh Is Bliing version features vocals by Punjabi star Diljit Dosanjh and the Noora sisters, but is noticeably less edgier than its original version and sounds slightly watered down, perhaps in a bid to cater to mainstream tastes.
